Currahee Memorial

The 506th Parachute Infantry Regiment “Currahee” Memorial at Ft. Campbell, Kentucky.

I love America and I love that most Americans want to thank me for my service today. To all of them, I appreciate it, but I ask for one favor. Instead of turning your attention to me and fellow veterans, please take a moment to remember any one of the fallen veterans or their families. Reflect on your own ancestors who may have fought and fallen on the battlefield. Consider reading about what certain veteran support organizations are doing to help the families of the fallen.

Definitely enjoy the day, especially if it’s day off from work or school. Hit the pool, enjoy the barbeque, but also, if you have the time, consider reflecting on the service of any of the following individuals or organizations.

  • Today, May 26, 2014, at 12:01PM EDT, the Iraq and Afghanistan Veterans of America (IAVA) will lay a wreath before the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier at Arlington National Cemetery. Gather your friends and family across the country and pause with us for a national moment of silence to honor those who have made the ultimate sacrifice. Take the pledge to #GoSilent
  • Take 2 minutes to read this post by the American Legion National Commander Daniel M. Dellinger titled The ‘greater meaning’ of Memorial Day. Also know that American Legion members throughout the country are selling poppies and working with Boy Scouts to place flags at the headstones of veterans.
  • Take 1 minute to read the Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW) Memorial Day statement.
  • If you have a spare 10 minutes, watch the video below which honors the fallen soldiers of my former unit, the 506th RCT “Currahee”, 101st Airborne Division (Air Assault). — Currahee Memorial Video

Or please consider remembering any of the following soldiers I had the privilege to serve with during my seven years in the US Army:

  • SGT Amanda Pinson
    • 21, St. Louis, MO
    • 187th RCT “Rakkasan,” 101st Airborne Division
